AISPE statement for Gaza
The Italian Association for the History of Economic Thought (AISPE) strongly condemns the terrorist attack carried out by Hamas in October 2023 and the kidnapping of hostages who are still being brutally held. It denounces as intolerable the severe consequences suffered by the citizens of Gaza as a result of the ongoing disproportionate response of the Israeli government under Netanyahu’s leadership.
It also denounces the responsibilities of an international community, first and foremost its representative organizations in Europe, which is incapable of protecting these people, and calls for a United Nations human rights intervention force, endowed with the legitimacy to halt any further criminal acts against the Palestinian people.
It also hopes to create, together with other organized civil society groups, a critical mass calling for concrete positions and credible diplomatic interventions to force Israel and Palestine to accept a solution in which each people has sovereignty over a portion of territory.
Finally, it pledges to promote moments of reflection and in-depth study of the complex historical and economic dynamics that have led to the current situation, in the belief that they are fundamental to the formation of a more conscious critical awareness of the Israeli-Palestinian issue, and invites the community of historians of economic thought to provide space for moments of scholarly and educational discussion on the issue.
